SkiJouring Silverton 2027
Horses. Skis. Blair Street. Zero brakes.
Every February, the craziest race in the San Juans takes over downtown Silverton. One horse, one rider, and one skier holding a rope tear down a snow-covered Blair Street at 35–45+ mph. The skier hits jumps and tries to grab rings on a baton, ideally without crashing and burning. It’s water skiing, if the boat had hooves and a cowboy.
Silverton Skijoring started in 2010 with a few hundred spectators. Now it’s the biggest winter event in town, drawing 2,500+ people from Durango, Ouray, Ridgway, Montrose, and beyond. It’s run 100% by volunteers as a 501(c)(3), and the whole point is keeping Silverton’s winter economy strong. That’s a cause we can get behind.

Make it a weekend.
Spend the day skiing and riding 26,819 acres of backcountry terrain at Silverton Mountain. Then head into town to watch horses drag skiers through the streets. February is guided season, so book your Guided Skiing or Heliskiing day ahead of time, and stick around town for the races.
