Silverton Mountain

Road Conditions

Unfortunately we cannot give refunds, rainchecks or cancellations if a pass is closed (rarely happens). As long as one way in is open to Silverton, you must ski on your reserved day. Best to arrive the night before to be safe. Roads leading to Silverton can close during the winter due to major storms or avalanche conditions. While we have no say in these closures it does help to check with the Colorado Department of Transportation’s website before making your trip down here.

Highway 550 South over Red Mountain Pass from Ouray/Ridgway typically will close after a foot or more of new snow and is usually the first pass to close. High winds can rapidly increase the avalanche hazard.

Highway 550 North from Durango is closed less often. Closures are relatively infrequent on both passes however.

For road closure information by telephone, please call (303) 639-1111 from Denver or out-of-state. For inquiries from within Colorado but outside the Denver area, please call toll free 1 (877) 315-7623.
