Heli Ski/Heli Board drops to spectacular terrain can be purchased in single run increments for only $150 per run bringing the possibility of heli skiing to those with big boards but a small bank roll. This is a great way to experience more of the mountain.

In addition to the standard Silverton Mtn heli drops, we also offer Canadian style heli accessed ski/snowboard touring starting at $300 (2 drop minimum per person for ski touring). Please call to set up the ultimate touring package.

Silverton Mountain has been using a small helicopter to conduct avalanche control for several years at the ski area and uses heli drops to help offset the costs. Silverton Mountain has access to an A-Star heli a couple of days each week all season long.

With the higher costs and the poor accuracy of the avalauncher rounds, a helicopter is now the best tool for conducting avalanche control at Silverton Mountain and especially on the distant and most amazing ski terrain.

Heli drops are slated for afternoons keeping the majority of the day heli free.

This is also great news for unguided skiers as the helicopter avalanche control program helps get additional unguided ski terrain open much faster. The guided heli drops are a great way to sample the distant lines that take 2-3 hours of hiking to access.

The heli drops are available starting Dec 6th which is usually a great time to ride with light powder on all aspects and good snow stability.

You can book heli drops in advance on the website or at the base on days that it’s available. Spaces are limited.

If you want more than 2 drops on a day it will require a ‘Custom’ package and you will need to call the office.

Typical itinerary would include two guided runs off the chairlift in the morning, followed by a heli run much further away from the chairlift, then 1-2 guided human powered runs far from the chairlift, and second heli drop returning you for a 3-6 run day depending on how fast you ski.
